Replacing Light Bulbs
We have 64 town buildings who participate in Light Up Thomaston by displaying a string of lights along the outside of their buildings. As with any string of lights, each year there are a number of issues with bulbs and wires needing replacement. Over the last several years, the number of committee members able to change light bulbs has dwindled to mainly 4, with those 4 members changing 800 to 1,000 light bulbs per year on the buildings in town. This annual task of changing out light bulbs has become particularly difficult based on the number of volunteers able to participate and the life expectancy of the lights and wiring.
In efforts to support the town/statewide effort to become more energy efficient, and to service the bulbs as necessary to keep our event going, we have made the decision to replace all building lights for Light Up Thomaston to LED bulbs. While a major undertaking for the committee, both financially and physically, this effort will provide the committee with less worry in the future and free up our time to focus on growing the event itself. Our estimation is that instead of going out 16 to 20 days between September and November to service the light bulbs, our light committee will be able to accomplish the task in much less time. In addition, it will significantly reduce the electric bills of fellow town organizations by providing a long lasting, energy efficient way of displaying our lights.
We are in need of manpower to help us replace all the bulbs on each of the 64 buildings. From now until October, we are seeking individuals who would be able to assist with this task. We primarily complete this task on Saturday mornings, but weekday help (especially during August) is welcome.
